I love it when I get to take pictures of friends. This gentleman's mom has been a mentor to me, so I was thrilled to get to to something for them and be a part of his senior experience. Josh requested an industrial setting for his pictures. So I went scouting and found a couple of places that I thought he would like. I have to say I ended up loving them as well, so it was a great experience for both of us.
Leave Josh some blog love. If he receives 25 or more comments on this post by 8/5, I have something extra special for Josh and his family.

My Scavenger Album
I have had a few people ask about my scavenger hunt pictures. Since Clickin Mom's is a paid forum, access to that is limited. But, here is a link to my Picassa Web Album that I am using to host the pictures: 2011 CM Scavenger Hunt. Comments are ALWAYS appreciated, although...please realize this is a scavenger hunt that is for fun and is not a reflection of my abilities as a portrait photographer. A lot of these are my kids and I swooping in for a photo and racing away giggling like...well, like kids. We are having a blast with this. :)
{Someone wearing underwear on his/her head...I am an equal opportunity mother}
{An adult wearing roller skates...North Pole Babes in Toyland local roller derby sk8r's}
I have a few surprises up my sleeve that I am waiting to post until the night before the hunt ends, my kids came up with a couple of ideas to fit categories that I would never have thought of, so we are hopeful they might be enough to put us over the top to win. I'll keep you posted.

Photo Scavenger Hunt
One of the photography forums that I belong to is having a ginormous scavenger hunt this month. My kids and I have been having so much fun planning and taking our pictures. They have some wonderfully generous prize packages that include something for the kiddo's too so they are super excited about helping me with this. If you are interested in participating, head over to their blog for full details:

H Surprise
Just before I left on vacation they passed around a clipboard in church asking for donation of services for a silent auction to fundraise for girls camp. I don't have girls going, but I was sure grateful when my daughter's camp fee's were covered by our Ward. I volunteered to take pictures for a Senior session. When I got home I had a message that the Bishop wanted to talk to me...uh oh. When we finally connected he told me that he had bought the picture session and since he didn't have a senior in his house he wanted to turn it into a Senior "Citizen" session. What fun! He wanted to set this up for a single gentleman in our ward whose family is scattered about as he felt they would love to receive a picture of him, and it is something he probably wouldn't think of doing himself. So tonight was the night and the bugs we SO bad...ugh. But we got some nice shots. There were a couple that I looked at and thought, they would make a pretty nice black and white. I converted this one and was beyond thrilled with the results...what do YOU think?

My Family Portraits
I decided this year that I was going to set a goal for myself. I wanted a picture of my family and I was going to do whatever it took to get that. While on vacation we spent some time at the beach and it presented the perfect opportunity to get exactly what I was looking for. I love my family and I am so glad I was able to capture that in this moment. I seriously cannot wait to get these blown up and framed in my house. :)

Willow Tunnel
One of my favorite places to shoot at is the botanical garden up at UAF. They have so much to offer there and it changes from week to week during the growing season and looks so different based on the time of day tht you are there because of the light. I am just enchanted everytime I go there. A friend of mine who flies up once every 6 weeks during the school year came up last fall and I got to share this with her. She was also drawn to my favorite part of the botanical garden...this lovely Willow Tunnel. I captured her just as she was getting ready to turn the corner as she peeked back at me. Oh please hurry spring, I am so ready for you.

{B & T Family}
Today I had the privilege of photographing an amazing family. As everyone gathered for an extended family shoot, the joy and laughter each person brought was infectious. We had so much fun...thank you for sharing your family with me. I feel so blessed.

I {Heart Faces} Photo Challenge: Pets
One of the goals I have set for myself is to participate in photo challenges. This week I am participating in I Heart Faces photo challenge. The category this week is Pets. Poor Peanut is looking scruffy and needs to go to the beauty parlor, so I all I was left with was Dixie. She was taking a nap in the sun and opened her eye to peek at me at just the right moment.

CD Packaging
I spent today designing my packaging. My goal in this venture is to make quality pictures affordable. I will be offering high quality images on CD as well as quality print services at discounted prices. I would love to know what you think of my CD packaging design. :)
Its all starting to come together and I am almost ready to begin scheduling appointments. SO excited for that!

A Challenge
On July 2, 2010 my in-laws will be celebrating 45 years of marriage. That is quite an accomplishment in this day and age. They started out married life at the age of 15 and 17. From humble beginnings they emerged victorious against the odds. Dad retired this year, so this will be a year of new beginnings and accomplishments. Marks sister and I wanted to do something special for them to mark this occassion. Due to work schedules we were unable to get our two families together for a complete family picture, so we settled on a picture of all the grandkids together, since this may be our last chance with Ashlyn graduating and moving on to college. She came up this week to go camping with us at Birch Lake, so Monday was our opportunity to do it.
Each of us had one of our children who were...less than happy about participating...even when we explained how special this was. That made it especially challenging to get an acceptable shot. Lots of scowls, closed eyes, groans (from both sides of the camera) and we walked out hoping we had at least one that was good. In one hour we took 450 pictures...and good news! We had 2 contenders....2...two...aaack. It was a bit of a blow to my newfound photography confidence.
But...I do think it is easier working with other peoples children than it is with your own at times...thats what I keep telling myself. Here is the winning shot that we are going to have blown up on canvas for them:
Congratulations mom and dad in-law. You have an awesome family.
Susan
So...I did my first non-family photo shoot a couple of weeks ago. Susan agreed to help me out. We were both very excited to work together. Here is a sneak peek of her session
Thanks Susan...John is going to smile every time he looks at your picture on his desk.

My Girl
I had a wonderful time today playing with my camera and taking pics outside. Isn't she a cutie? Overall I was pleased with this shot straight out of the camera (SOOC), I did just a couple of tweaks and it was ready to go.
I am finding since I've started carrying my camera with me, that I am looking at my surroundings much more differently. I am constantly framing things in my mind, looking for something unique that I can highlight in an extraordinary way. It gives me a newfound appreciation for my daily existance and THAT makes my heart happy.
